Bruce Quick Obituary

The following is a brief synopsis of Bruce Quick's life and some thoughts about him in order to celebrate his life and also give others a chance to comment or perhaps share some of their favorite memories of Bruce. Comments can be made anywhere on the blog. We welcome any stories, favorite memories, or comments you’d like to make.

Bruce was born to Jim and Pauline Quick in 1963 in Spokane, Washington. He came into this world with his twin brother, Bryce, five minutes apart. They joined their older siblings, Gary and Dale Quick. Over the next few years, his brothers Steven and Roger were born into the family. Bruce, along with his five brothers were raised in the Spokane Valley where they attended schools in the West Valley School District.

Bruce was always very active in sports and activities. He wrestled, played football and basketball, ran Cross Country, played tennis, water-skied and was very active in other clubs and activities while in school. He really enjoyed playing Church softball and basketball with all of the local and regional tournaments that were included. He was a top wrestler in junior high and in 9th grade he won all his matches. Throughout his life, he stayed very active playing sports and generally loved getting outside and doing things. You could often find him skiing on the slopes or at playing on a local tennis court with friends.

Bruce was ambitious even as a youth.  He and Bryce talked his parents into letting them have paper routes at a young age and they did quite well while getting to know many of the people in the neighborhood and learning the value of work.

The family usually made a trip to Oak City at least once a year where Bruce enjoyed his cousins at Grandpa and Grandma Lovell’s place. He especially enjoyed helping with the farm chores and work while also having a good time working and playing with Austin Lovell’s family and his cousins. Like his brothers, he also enjoyed hiking and exploring in the canyon and rolling in the sand hills just outside of Oak City. Returning to Oak City to visit relatives was always a high priority for him throughout his life.

Upon graduating from high school, he attended a year of school at Brigham Young University before serving a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Vancouver, British Columbia mission for a year and a half where he served as an assistant to the president.

When Bruce returned from his mission, he completed his bachelor’s degree at BYU and took a job working for a finance company in Arizona. He later returned to BYU to complete a Masters Degree in Public Administration.

Ever the optimist, he would always give you the benefit of the doubt while giving  his heart and soul to his friends and family. If you ever needed something, he’d do everything in his power to help you or give it to you, even if it was his own. He had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was caring to a fault at times.

Bruce also had a love for family history and loved making connections with family members at family gatherings and outside of these gatherings. He was that fun uncle who never turned down a chance to play a game or go on an adventure with you. Many a niece and nephew got to call Bruce´s condo home for a summer break or a landing spot when the rigors of college at his beloved BYU required a respite and a loving Uncle´s advice and company.  Bruce was always welcoming to those who needed a place to stay whether it was for night, a week or even longer.  Bruce had a way of making you feel good about yourself and truly loved to understand others. He would spend hours speaking with people and really getting to know them and connecting with them. He remembered details and cared about others at a much deeper level than most of us ever go with our own friends and family.

Bruce created a montage of family pictures of family moments and loved ones on the living room wall in his house. Memories in black wooden frames with black and white photos of his parents, brothers and favorite places like Oak City and the lake served as conversation starters for anyone who paid Bruce a visit.  His bathrooms reflected his love of the beach and his Christmas tree was decorated with porcelain penguins that provoked questions about their origins.

In his most recent years, Bruce had been working day and night on an invention that he was trying to bring to market. This project brought him great hope and helped focus much of his daily energy. While he worked tirelessly on this project, his brother Bryce also continually helped him try to bring the project to fruition.

Bruce was surrounded by a close group of friends and family who gave him the love he needed while also continually sharing his talents and energy with those around him. All who knew Bruce will always hold dear memories of him! While gone now, he will never be forgotten!
